What is keyless smart entry for a car?
Keyless remote entry on a vehicle, sometimes known as passive entry, comes with more than a few perks. The most significant perk of keyless entry is the convenience it affords. Loaded down with groceries? You can still get the trunk open with a wave of your foot, depending on the version of keyless entry installed on your car. Just press the button and go, no more fighting to get the key into the lock. The increased security keyless entry provides is another big advantage. The electronics in the key need to be recognized by your car before it will open any doors or start the engine. Some keyless systems will even lock your doors automatically when you walk away from the vehicle. Lastly, there’s the fun side of keyless entry, the remote ignition. You’ll feel like a wizard when you press a button on your remote and see your car start.
Not all Keyless Systems are passive, but all Passive Entry systems are keyless entry systems. Confusing isn’t it? Here’s how it functions. Keyless involves the car driver pushing buttons on the key to lock and unlock the car doors and other features like opening the hatch. Passive Keyless is when you can keep your car keys in your pocket and then you touch an area on the car (like a spot on a door) to lock and unlock the doors, or shake your foot underneath the vehicle to open the hatch. One bonus of passive systems is that they almost always include Keyless Ignition. Keyless Ignition lets drivers start and drive their car without the key fob ever leaving their purse.
Even though they return similar results, Keyless Ignition and Remote Start are not the same things. Keyless Start lets you start your car without using a normal key. Remote Ignition lets drivers start their car via their key fob or mobile application. Remote Start is helpful during extreme temperatures such as very cold or very hot days by letting you start the car and help cool it off during the summer. You will no longer climb into a hot car again, simply use the Remote Start and let your car cool off before you take off.
A Smart Key is an electronic way (fob, smartphone app, key card) that is used to access a vehicle remotely. The buttons for your Remote Start, Keyless Entry, and other functions are usually found on the Smart Key itself. A Smart Key transmits signals to the vehicle to unlock the doors, open the trunk, and so on. Some vehicles will not start without the Smart Key, as they are connected to the security system. With so many convenient and fun options available on Smart Keys, why would you want anything else?
